300 applications. 0 interviews. The Germany reality.
Published 3 months ago • 2 min read
Last week during a consultation call a student showed me his spreadsheet.
312 applications. 2 interviews. 0 offers.
He had tracked every single application.
Date. Company. Position. Status.
At the bottom of the spreadsheet he wrote one sentence:
“Maybe Germany was a mistake.”
Sometimes you just write things out loud.
But....
I’ve seen this moment many times.
Not because Germany has no jobs.
In fact - new people are still getting hired constantly!
But because most students are playing the wrong game.
Aha #1: In Germany, the best jobs are never posted
Most students believe the job search works like this:
Find job on LinkedIn → Apply → Get interview.
But in Germany, a huge number of roles are filled before they ever appear online.
Internal referrals. Working student roles turning into full-time jobs. Professors recommending students to companies. Direct outreach.
If you only apply on job portals, you are competing with 1000s of applicants for the same position.
LEARNING #1: Applying to UNSOLICITED VACANCIES and NETWORKING!
Aha #2: German companies don’t hire CVs. They hire familiarity.
In many countries, a strong resume can get you interviews.
It used to be the case in Germany too before the number of Indians students in Germany went on an explosive growth.
In Germany, companies prefer candidates they already recognize.
Someone who worked there as a Werkstudent. Someone recommended by a colleague. Someone who contacted them earlier.
To many students this feels unfair.
But that’s simply how the system works.
LESSON #2: What's the biggest sign of familiarity?
Knowing German
Living in Germany
If living abroad - a software / tool / skill which is also being used in the target company.
Aha #3: Many international students apply too late
A lot of students start job hunting after graduation.
In Germany, that’s already late.
The strongest candidates start building connections and working student experience during their studies.
By the time they graduate, companies already know them.
LESSON #3:
Do not wait till the Job seeker visa counter starts ticking! Start applying early.
BONUS LESSON: Even if you do not need a new job - what's the issue in applying for one and seeing if you find a better opportunity somewhere else?
You never KNOW how long your current job stays!
Aha #4: English-only job searches cut the market in half
Many students do this:
search only for “English-speaking jobs”.
Click to watch the actual video where I show you how bad the situation is.
But most German companies operate in German internally.
Even basic conversational German suddenly unlocks many more opportunities.
You don’t need perfect German.
But the difference between A2 and B2 can completely change your job search.
The interesting part
Even in today’s slower market, I still see students landing very strong jobs.
Not because they are smarter.
Not because they got lucky.
Because they eventually understand how the German system actually works.
Once you understand the rules, the whole job search looks different.
Look -
don't get me wrong.
I am not ignoring the struggles students are facing.
I know some students have it very difficult.
But at the same time - I refuse to have any Mitleid for people who have options to improve themselves - to prepare better and still don't.
Because it is such a big problem - I am launching soon our own Germany Job Accelerator program with live sessions, industry insights, document reviews and more.
Who am I looking to help there?
Professionals who are in India and already have some serious work experience.
Students towards the end of their Masters who still haven't found a job.
If you are one of these - reply to my email with more details about yourself.
In tomorrow's email - I will tell you the solution to this problem (other than learning German - that is one time investment you will never regret!)
Till tomorrow!
Bharat
Bharat in Germany!
Because starting a new chapter feels easier with someone who’s been there.

This will be a little maths heavy, but you shouldn't have any problem with this. There is a reason why I tell you to fix your spending system. Not to spend less. Not to earn more. Just spend with different tools. Take a look at these screenshots: This is a flight from Copenhagen to Tokyo (Copenhagen because I am close there at the moment - you can do the same flight searches from Frankfurt, Berlin etc) Now how do you calculate? Because for the exact same business class on 14. April 2026, you...
If Germany is your goal… read this carefully. A lot of students wrote back after the recent price increases that they didn't get the chance to enroll at the old prices. So - we have done something crazy. We’ve just dropped prices on Faster German for the WEEKEND! A1 → ₹3,999 (will be ₹6,999)A1–B1 Bundle → ₹19,999 (will be ₹24,999)A1–B2 Bundle → ₹24,999 (will be turned into a guided learning system at ₹49,999) This is the lowest we’ve gone in a long time. And honestly… most people will still...
There is a reason almost all of the children of the politicians are not in India anymore. Insanity is the things they say: 🇮🇳 Nirmala Sitharaman She has repeatedly emphasized that India offers strong economic growth and opportunities, especially post-2014 reforms. In multiple speeches and budgets, she has encouraged youth to build careers within India’s expanding economy, particularly in startups and manufacturing. What did she say: ''India today provides a platform where young people can...
